Markham, 11-12 February 2017
The Canada Cup along with the Canadian Championships are the most important Canadian tournaments of the year. The Canada Cup however, consists of three tournaments: two qualifying tournaments, one in the West and one in the East, and a final which brings together the best players from the two regional qualifying tournaments.
The Markham Pan American Center was the location for the Eastern Canada Cup and saw some of the Geng Table Tennis Academy athletes in action. Sabrina Chen, Howard Chen, Jean Fei and Daniel Lu made the trip from Ottawa to this prestigious event.
Sabrina had a very good tournament finishing 4th overall in the Women’s Open and earned a spot in the final which will be played in Markham in March, 2017.
Jean finished at a very respectable 10th place in the Women’s Open and managed to reach the final of the U 2200.
For Daniel, it was his first participation in a National level tournament as he competed in the Hopes U-12 category. He had a very good first appearance as he lost by a very narrow margin in the qualifying round. As a result of his loss he had to settle to play for positions 7 to 12. He ultimately finished 9th out of the 21 competitors in his category.
Congratulations to all.
